Mr. Stancil was a longtime member of Ball Ground Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday School. He was also a current member of Foothills Community Church. In addition, he was a member of the Ball Ground Masonic Lodge and the Ball Ground Lions Club. Mr. Stancil was a Charter Member of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce. A United States Air Force veteran, Mr. Stancil served in the Office of Special Investigations during the Korean War. He also served for 20 years as a member of the R.T. Jones Hospital Authority Board. He was elected to the Cherokee County Board of Education, where he faithfully served for 23 years. During that time, he also served as Past President of the Georgia School Boards Association. Mr. Stancil was the organizer of the Cherokee County Board of Realtors and served as its second-year president. Mr. Roy Max Stancil was a graduate of Georgia State University. He owned and operated Stancil Manufacturing Company until 1968. From 1970 until 2011, he was the owner and broker of Stancil Realty and Century 21 Max Stancil Realty. He also worked as a V.A. appraiser. Mr. Stancil was preceded in death by his wife, Annette Stancil; his parents, Roy N. and Kate Gilstrap Stancil; and his stepmother, Margaret Stancil. He is survived by his son, Steve (Cristal) Stancil of Canton, Georgia; his daughter, Lisa (Ronnie) Smith of Ball Ground, Georgia; his brother, Tony (Deisha) Stancil of Ball Ground, Georgia; and his grandchildren, Jody (Julie) Stancil, Cody (Kelly) Stancil, Natalie (Karim) Smith Mikhial, Zachary (Katie) Smith, and Jamey (Stephanie) Honeycutt. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; and bonus children, Alex Johnson and Julie Wilson (Rick Bornmann). He also leaves behind the loving and caring staff of Phoenix at Union Hill. The family will receive friends at Darby Funeral Home on Monday, May 18, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Georgia National Cemetery, with Rev. Jody Stancil officiating.
