Mrs. Emily Mildred King, 95, of Dallas, Georgia, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2026, at home surrounded by family.

Emily was born January 15, 1931, in East Point, GA, the daughter of the late George Gillum Hollums and the late Moreene Hammond Hollums. Emily was instilled with a sense of community and faith early through helping out at Hollum’s Grocery, her father’s independent grocery store and growing up in First Methodist Church both in East Point. She nourished an artistic flair in high school as a member of the Girl’s Chorus and yearbook staff while at Russel High School, in East Point.

Emily was a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse, having earned her Nursing Diploma from Crawford Long School of Nursing in Atlanta in 1950. She worked as a Registered Nurse in Georgia, Ohio, and Indiana during her nursing career. Throughout her life, she carried that caring spirit and a genuine desire to help others. She later devoted herself to being a loving homemaker, creating a warm and welcoming home for her family.

While in nursing school, Emily met the love of her life, Don Dean King of Canton Ohio, while he was an engineering student at Geogia Tech in Atlanta. They married in 1951 and spent the next 60 years together raising a family of three children and a slew of pet dogs and cats in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Union City, Indiana, and Gainesville, GA.

Emily’s creative side shone brightly through her painting, working in miniatures of dioramas of family life and scrapbooking her ancestry and current family life thereby preserving special memories and finding joy in the little details of life. She also had a special love for dogs and a passion for dog obedience training. Along with her late husband, Don, and Diane Blalock, she co-founded the Lake Lanier Obedience Club in Gainesville, GA, sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm for training and helping others develop a special bond with their dogs.

Emily was also an active and faithful member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Gainesville, where she enjoyed being involved in the life of her church through Sunday School, committee work, and the Caring Bear ministry. She and Don started the church’s Christmas Eve come-and-go communion service in the 1960s which her entire family ran for many years. Her many interests, talents, and dedication to others reflected a life filled with purpose, kindness, and love.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step mother, Eunice Peoples Hollums, siblings, Aubrey Hollums and Lowell Hollums.

Emily is survived by her children, Jeffrey Michael King and Gail Rocquemore of Edmond, OK, Jon and Becky King of Dallas, Jill King Childs and Dan Childs of Rome, grandchildren, Jared and Sarah Brown of Lawrenceville, Ryan and Heather Brown of Acworth, step grandchildren, Jimmy and Abi Childs of Rome, Jennifer Childs of Rome, Walt and Kelly Childs of Rome, brother, Gary and Sylvia Hollums of Griffin, great grandchildren, Lauren Brown, Nathan Brown, Issac Brown, Evan Brown, several step great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at a later time in Gainesville.

Inurnment will take place at St. Paul United Methodist Church Columbarium in Gainesville also at a later date.
