Jose Omar Escajeda, lovingly known as “Pop,” passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, at the age of 87 in San Antonio, Texas.

Born in Mexico on December 3, 1938, Omar immigrated to Boerne, Texas, in the 1960s to join his family and build a life rooted in faith, hard work, and devotion to family. He dedicated more than 25 years of service to the City of Boerne, working in the Streets Department and later maintaining the city cemetery — a role he carried out with great pride and care.

Omar was a hardworking provider who always believed in leading by example. He often worked multiple jobs to support his family and instilled in his children the values of responsibility, perseverance, and education. Though he had little formal schooling himself, he made sure his sons graduated from Boerne High School — one of his proudest accomplishments.

He was known throughout the community for his resourcefulness and generosity. Long before recycling was common, he found value in what others discarded, repairing lawnmowers, restoring vehicles, and helping anyone in need. If someone needed something, he would find a way to provide it.

A devoted father, Omar rarely missed his sons’ sporting events and had a lifelong love of baseball that began in his childhood in Mexico. Family gatherings, Saturday night dances with his beloved wife, and spoiling his grandchildren with sweet treats were among his greatest joys.

After the loss of his first wife, Ausencia, following her long battle with cancer, Omar remained devoted to his family. Later in life, he was blessed with the companionship of Dorothy Escajeda, who lovingly cared for him in his later years.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ausencia and his daughters, Juanita and Bertha.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Escajeda; his sons, Rafael Escajeda (Linda), Jose Escajeda (Angela), and Martin Escajeda (Diana); as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Omar’s legacy of faith, hard work, generosity, and unconditional love will live on through the family he cherished and the community he served.
