The angels have visited us again and taken our dearly beloved mother. grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Verdell Bascomb Amos received her Crown of Glory on April 17, 2026. She departed this life peacefully at home, surrounded by her family. She has gone to be with the Lord but will remain forever in our hearts.

Verdell was preceded in death by her beloved Husband, Esthus Amos, Jr. and her Sister, Annie Ruth Crittenden Johnson. She was born in Milstead, Alabama on January 3, 1942, to the late Fred Bascomb, Sr. and the late Porsha Bascomb. At a young age, she moved to Tuskegee, Alabama where she received her primary education in the Macon County Public School System. She continued her education at Buck McCray School of Business in Tuskegee, Alabama. After completing her schooling, she was employed in various administrative roles. She also served as substitute teacher, a director of an after-school program and spent many years as a loving homemaker.

She married Esthus Amos, Jr. on January 28, 1967, in Tuskegee, Alabama and was a devoted wife for 56 years. She was also a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. She loved traveling, cooking, watching sports, taking care of the home and was known for her fashionable attire! During her lifetime, she lived in Dayton, OH Lexington, KY, Austin, TX, Cary, NC and Atlanta, GA.

Verdell’s faith was extremely important to her. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a member of Sweet Gum AME Zion Church where she loved to sing in the choir. Throughout her life, she maintained an unwavering commitment and love for the Lord. She served as a dedicated and loyal member of several churches, including David Chapel Missionary Baptist Church (Austin, TX), Little Rock A.M.E Zion Church (Charlotte, NC) and St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church (Durham, NC), where she served as a Class Leader and Chair of the Trustee Aid Board.

She is survived by her brother, Fred (Angela) Bascomb, Jr. of Tuskegee, AL, four loving children, Wanda Bascomb (Ronald) Montgomery of Dallas, TX, Cedrica Dionne Miller of Los Angeles, CA, Lynne Shelese Amos (Delano) Carter of Atlanta, GA, and Esthus Christopher Amos of Baltimore, MD. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Courtney Allen Smith of Raleigh, NC, Alex Montgomery of Dallas, TX, Taylor Miller Kennedy of Los Angeles, CA and Kobe Amos, of New York, NY. She leaves behind three great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
