Susan Henderson Johnson was reunited with her Lord and Savior on May 17, 2026. Born in Guildford County, NC, Susan lived a life overflowing with love, laughter, kindness, and joy. To know Susan was to love her. She lit up every room she entered with her beautiful smile, quick wit, and warmhearted spirit. She had a way of lifting others up effortlessly—with encouragement, compliments, laughter, and a kindness that left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Susan loved to laugh and truly found joy in living in the moment. A graduate of King’s Business College in Greensboro, her family often joked about the handwritten comment that appeared on nearly every report card throughout her school years: “Susie talks too much.” Year after year, the same remark followed her—becoming a treasured family story in later years. Her gift for connection served her well in her career, which began working alongside her beloved father, attorney Worth D. Henderson of Greensboro, NC. Later, after dedicating herself fully to raising her young daughters, she returned to the workforce where she enjoyed many rewarding years at Ithaca Industries and Allied Recovery, forming cherished friendships and filling workplaces with the same laughter and warmth she brought everywhere she went. The true cornerstone of Susan’s life was the beautiful 56-year marriage she shared with the love of her life, Perk. Together, they built the peaceful life they had always dreamed of on their beloved 200-acre farm in Wilkes County. Though simple from the outside, it was a life rich with love, hard work, and countless animals that became part of the family over the years—chickens, guinea hens, peacocks, pigs, goats, cows, dogs, and cats of every kind. From Great Danes to Dachshunds, Susan loved them all. She had a special gift with animals and was truly an "animal whisperer." In winter, cardinals gathered in the rosebud tree she faithfully tended, and tame cows often wandered close enough to steal laundry from the clothesline while waiting for apples or bread from her loving hands. If you knew Susan in her later years, you undoubtedly heard her proudly tell you about her cat named Squirrel—just one more reflection of her playful spirit and unmistakable charm. Her home reflected the same meticulous care she gave to the people and animals around her. Susan kept their beautiful, welcoming farmhouse so spotless that family often joked you could eat off the floors. She was an avid reader who found joy in life’s quiet moments, but she also loved music and could frequently be heard driving the winding dirt roads near home with favorites like the Bee Gees, Tina Turner, or the Eagles blasting at full volume. While her accomplishments were many, her greatest pride and joy was always her family. To her daughters, she was far more than a mother—she was their best friend, confidant, biggest cheerleader, keeper of secrets, and a steady source of wise counsel through countless daily phone calls that continued even into adulthood. She loved unconditionally, forgave easily, and made her family feel deeply seen, valued, and loved. To her grandchildren, she was a Grammy who made wonderful jelly toast, kept the cabinets stocked with oatmeal cookies, and never hesitated to sit on the floor to play or have her hair and makeup done by tiny hands. In recent years, some of her happiest moments were spent sitting on the porch beside Perk, looking out across the green pastures and fields they had worked so hard to build together. They truly lived their dreams side by side. Now peacefully reunited with her beloved Perk, her daughters often imagine her first day in Heaven happily sitting beside Jesus, asking every question under the sun and excitedly telling Him all about the beautiful life she created for herself and her family here on earth. “To our dearest mama: You were the best mama we could have ever been blessed with.
