Susan Jane Isom, lovingly known as Sue, passed away peacefully at her home in Bluffdale on September 9, 2026, after a long and difficult battle with cancer, surrounded by her friends and family. She was born on June 21, 1965, in Idaho Falls, and will be remembered as a strong, fun-loving woman who always sought to get the most out of life.

Sue lived with energy, curiosity, and heart. She was constantly in search of adventure and found joy in the simple and lasting pleasures that made life rich: reading, puzzles, games, crafting, gardening, beach vacations, and, above all, time with her grandchildren. Her love for family shone through in the traditions she created and the memories she gave so generously. Easter was her favorite holiday, and she would spend weeks planning imaginative treasure hunts so the children could search for their Easter baskets, always making the day feel magical and full of adventure. Summer was equally dear to her, especially because it meant long days with her three grandchildren. Each year she created a themed summer filled with donut shop visits, ice cream outings, crafting, exploration, science, and swimming. Those joyful summers will remain a treasured part of her family’s story.

Sue was deeply proud of her service to her country. She served from 1984 to 1988 and was honorably discharged after four years of military service. During that time, she attained the rank of E-4 Specialist and earned the Army Service Ribbon, Army Lapel Button, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, and Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Component Bar. Her military service remained one of her proudest accomplishments, reflecting her strength, discipline, and determination.

She was also proud of her education, earning an Associate’s Degree from Salt Lake Community College. Professionally, she worked as a programmer for the Utah Department of Transportation and later as a programmer for the Utah Department of Education. Her work reflected the same intelligence and dedication that marked every part of her life.

Among Sue’s greatest accomplishments were her children and grandchildren, who brought her immense happiness and purpose. She spent every moment she could with them, filling their lives with laughter, creativity, and love. Her legacy lives on in the adventures she planned, the traditions she built, and the warmth she gave so freely.

Sue is survived by her son, Michael Thoman (Hiday Thoman, Wife); her daughter, Katie Thoman; her grandchildren, Raegan Jensen, Jaedyn Thoman, and Joshua Thoman; her sisters, Julie Isom, Joyce Shoemaker, and Marie Aschliman; her brothers, Ralph Isom and Matt Isom; and her close cousin, Alfred Romeo. She was preceded in death by her father, Andrew Dean Isom, and her mother, Joan Isom. She will be deeply missed by her family and by all who were touched by her strength, her playfulness, and her generous spirit.

A viewing will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery, 6500 S Redwood Rd, West Jordan, Utah 84123. A second viewing will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the same location. A graveside service will follow on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery in the Garden of Valor. For the Saturday viewing and service, Sue requested that we all wear Easter colors to celebrate her life.

Sue’s life was marked by resilience, devotion, and delight in the people she loved most. She leaves behind memories of laughter, discovery, and unwavering love that will continue to comfort and inspire those who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation in her name to your favorite charity.
