James “Jim” John Abicunas, Ashland, passed away on Sept 17, 2026, at the age of 64.

Born in Bridgeport, CT he was a son of James E. Abicunas and the late Patricia (Lipiec) Abicunas. Jim moved to the Shenandoah area following his graduation from Fairfield University in CT. He worked locally with the Postal Service for 33 years. Following his retirement, he became an avid golfer and talented artist.

Besides the birth of his son, his proudest moments were when he shot a hole in one on tee number two at the White Birch golf course and displaying his paintings in several local art exhibits & galleries. Jim as an active member of the Allied Artists of Schuylkill County. His creativity, love for music and enthusiasm for sports will be sorely missed. Jim was a very active member of St. John the Baptist Polish National Catholic Church in Frackville, serving as treasurer, lecturer and choir member for several years.

Jim was also an organ donor. Following his passing, he was able to provide vital donations to two individuals.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia R (Lipiec) Abicunas.

Surviving are his companion of 17 years, Elizabeth “Betsy” Greenman, Ashland; his son, James N. Abicunas, Ringtown; his father, James E. Abicunas, Ringtown; his sister, Susan Danne, Aiken, S.C.

Jim’s Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 2, 2026 at St. John the Baptist Polish National Catholic Church, 414 W Oak St, Frackville, PA 17931; with Rev. Robert Plichta officiating.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with James's family from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at Walukiewicz Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 South Jardin Street, Shenandoah.

Interment will be in St. Casimir Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights, immediately following the Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause that held a very special place in Jim’s heart and was deeply meaningful to him and his family. In this way, his memory can continue to make a difference in the lives of children and families in need.
