Maxine Webber, 74, of Rawlins, Wyoming, passed away peacefully at home in Rawlins on September 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving daughters and grandchildren. She was born on September 26, 1951, in Lovell, Wyoming.
Maxine graduated from Cowley High School in 1970 as part of a class of just 12 students. After graduation, she moved to Rawlins to babysit for her sister, Karen, beginning a life in the community she would come to call home.
Maxine shared a remarkable love story with her husband, Edward Webber. The two were to be married on a crisp autumn day, October 29, 1971, but a fierce snowstorm kept Ed from attending the ceremony. Undeterred, their journey officially began shortly thereafter, when they were married in the cozy living room of his parents’ home on November 2, 1971. It was a magical love story, made even more poignant by the fact that Maxine and Edward died on the same date, one year apart, within 30 minutes of each other.
She was loving, sweet, kind, thoughtful, selfless, and blessed with a great sense of humor and an ornery streak that those who knew her cherished. Maxine was the steady heart of her family, a woman whose proudest accomplishment was the people she loved. She was truly the rock and foundation that held her family together, a loving and dedicated wife, a wonderful mother to her three girls, and a grandmother who loved beyond measure and took deep pride in each of her grandchildren.
From an early age, Maxine was known for her willingness to help others. It was her lifelong dream to become a maid, and growing up she could always be counted on to help her aunts with cleaning. Even after moving to Rawlins, she cleaned many houses. She also worked for several years as an assistant at Dr. Scoggin’s Dental Office. In time, she fulfilled what became one of the most meaningful roles of her life: homemaker. She devoted herself to creating a home filled with care, warmth, and welcome.
Her home reflected the same love she gave so freely. Maxine loved gardening and took great pride in making her yard beautiful. Dahlias, sunflowers, and peonies were among her favorite flowers. She enjoyed mowing the yard, cleaning out the horse stalls, and fishing. She was also known for her cooking and generous hospitality. No one ever left her house hungry. One of the first things she would ask was whether you had eaten or if you were hungry, and her family lovingly joked that she never cooked for just one or two people.
She is survived by her daughters, Jamie Martinez and her husband Mike, Melissa Webber, and Dana Bruggink; by her sisters, Karen Pate and Annette DeLattre; and by her beloved grandchildren, Colin and Cade Bruggink, Jaiden and Camryn Martinez, Kobie Ellis, Devon and Ashton Martinez, and Echo Pedersen. She loved her family deeply, always putting their needs before her own, making countless sacrifices, and surrounding them with unwavering devotion. The love she poured into her family will remain a lasting gift in their lives.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward Webber; her father, Angus Maxwell Willis; her mother, Alberta Willis; and her brothers, Lorum Willis and Brent Willis.
A viewing will be held on October 3, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 509 E Kendrick St, Rawlins, Wyoming. Funeral services will follow there at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place at 3:15 p.m. at Rawlins Cemetery, 915 3rd St, Rawlins, Wyoming.
Maxine will be remembered for the beauty she created in her home and yard, the meals that gathered people close, the laughter she shared, and the steadfast love that defined her life. Her presence was a blessing, and her memory will be held close by all who knew and loved her.
