Pina lived with quiet grace.
Born and raised in the beautiful Spanish colonial town of El Rosario, Sinaloa, Mexico, she was the adored middle child among six other siblings. She grew up surrounded by the love of her family. That bond remained strong throughout their lives, sustained across the years, with frequent travels shared by them around the world.
As a young woman, Pina married Roger Zinkan and moved to Rawlins, Wyoming, where she was quickly and warmly embraced by the community. Although Roger’s death left her widowed while she was still young, Rawlins had become home, where she forged many deep friendships, and it remained the place to which her heart belonged. She later married Don Maberry, and together they had two children, Pinita and Walter. Pina was also the deeply treasured grandmother of Alexis and Julia.
Pina found joy and solace in gardening, reading, and prayer. She taught countless people to sew, crochet, knit, bake, and decorate cakes as an instructor through UW Extension programs, Bluebirds, Campfire, and 4-H. She was a CCD teacher at St. Joseph’s, sharing her love of God and prayer. She traveled extensively throughout the world, visiting beautiful and holy places, experiencing different cultures, and delighting in the local delicacies she discovered along the way. Her favorite destination was Israel. Yet no matter how far she traveled, she was always happy to return to Rawlins – the place she knew as home.
Those who knew Pina will remember, above all, her calm kindness. She was a gentle teacher, and her patient and understanding manner immediately put people at ease. She was someone in whom others could truly confide and on whom they could always rely.
Pina gave of herself quietly. She sought no recognition or attention for the gifts she shared, and she was always ready to act for someone in need. She volunteered with St. Vincent de Paul, knitted prayer shawls to warm the wounded, and was a true and faithful friend. When a request for prayer came to her, she quickly added another rosary. Her rosary was seldom far from her hand.
Her profound faith in God guided her life. Pina was a devoted member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, and she expressed her faith not only through prayer, but through compassion, service, humility, and love. She was admired as a devoted and loving mother, sister, aunt, and friend.
On September 4, 2026, Pina passed away peacefully and was gently walked home into the loving embrace of God, into perfect light, perfect peace, and perfect love. She is now reunited with the family and friends who went before her.

Pina is survived by her children, Pinita and Walter; her granddaughters, Alexis and Julia; Don’s children, Betty, Susan, and Donnie, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her siblings, Adelina and Julio; many beloved relatives and friends; and her precious feline companion, Rosie. She was preceded in death by Roger and Don, her parents, and her siblings Concha Bertha, Guillermo, Yolanda, and Mateo, and some of her closest and dearest friends, including Isabelle, Quig, Mary, Clarise, and Pansy.
A Rosary will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Both services will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rawlins.
Those wishing to honor Pina may make memorial contributions to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 219 W. Pine Street, PO Box 68, Rawlins, WY 82301.
