James Harold Dirck July 20, 1942 – October 10, 2026
James Harold Dirck, lovingly known as Jim, was born on July 20, 1942, in Sedalia, Missouri, to Raymond and Gladys Dirck. The second of two sons, Jim grew up with a curiosity about the world and a love of history that would remain with him throughout his life. Jim was a quiet and kind man whose greatest joy was his family. He had a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures: good food, interesting history, traveling to new places, and the companionship of animals. He loved learning about the world, but no matter how far his travels took him, Rawlins, Wyoming, held a special place in his heart.
In 1986, Jim met the love of his life, Zalenah, in Singapore. Their meeting marked the beginning of a beautiful love story and a life centered around family. Of all the things Jim treasured, nothing brought him greater pride than his wife, his children, and the family they built together. Jim was immensely proud of his children and their accomplishments. He was not a man who needed to be the center of attention or fill a room with words. His love was quieter than that, but no less profound. It was found in his kindness, his steady presence, and the genuine pride he took in the people he loved. He was a teacher for forty years and a restaurant owner for thirty years. Jim was always a full-time Dad and Papa.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Zalenah; his children, Brad Dirck (Kristen), Natasha Martinez (Sam), Katarina Jonovich (Jarred), and Farah Harris (Derek); and his cherished grandchildren, Jamie, Olivia, Brayden, Arianna, Grayson, Caelia, Collin, and Sienna. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Gladys Dirck, and his brother, Ronald Dirck. Jim lived a life defined not by grand gestures, but by quiet kindness, an enduring curiosity about the world, and a deep love for his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, and a gentle soul who made the lives of those around him better simply by being part of them. Jim was deeply loved, and he will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of life will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2026 at 3:00 PM at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church with Reverend Bobbi Fitzhugh officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Brad Dirck, Brayden Dirck, Derek Harris, Grayson Harris, Samuel Martinez, Collin Martinez and Jarred Jonovich.
